LATE BOOKING YOUR HAIR APPOINTMENT?

Don't fret. Just remember to pre-book your salon appointments before leaving. This ensures a quality visit for the future, secures your booking with your stylist, and prevents last-minute scheduling mishaps because you didn't plan ahead.

Service with a Smile!

Image
MY DAILY RANT - BECAUSE I ONLY COMPLAIN ON WEDNESDAYS!

Whatever happened to SERVICE WITH A SMILE? I frequent a local restaurant here in Los Angeles and wow what it takes to get a smile!!!!!

"What do you want to drink?" The waiter barked.

It's like putting eggs in the same bag as your bleach at the grocery store. Waiting tables and bagging groceries are both a dying art.

BILLY'S SUGGESTION: Patronize friendly and personable establishments known for their service. They could put dog food on the table and I wouldn't care - but when it comes to service - there's no substitute!!!

THE PERFECT SHAVE

Image
THE PERFECT SHAVE
Boys it's as easy as 1, 2, 3. Here are some basic "do's" for your shaving.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS
1 - Be sure your skin, tools, and water are nice and warm (I recommend comfortably hot). Never shave "cold."

2 - Shave in the shower. It should be the LAST thing you do. Shampoo, wash face and body, and rinse. Use a mild facial scrub to lift beard (or other body hair) to prep for shaving. This makes an easier/softer cut.

3 - AVOID CHEAP RAZOR BLADES. The single blade cheapies are the worst. I like a double or triple blade with a comfort gel pad.

4 - NEVER SHAVE UP when shaving under the chin. This is a sure way to get cuts, scrapes and in-grown hairs. Painful!!!

When you shave this way, the steam from the shower softens the beard, the facial scrub has prepped skin & beard, and by shaving LAST, it makes an easier cut with less nicks and ouchies.

THE STICKY PIG!!!

THE STICKY PIG

OK everyone. Last night I attended a bridal expo with all the bells and whistles. There were chocolate bars, cakes, flowers, music and the room was so beautifully put together. My FAVORITE vendor for the evening was a fabulous company called THE STICKY PIG. These are little candied bacons with the flavor and texture of sweet, salty, spicy, sticky and crunchy all in one delectible bite. I sat down with the owner Tara Simon to find out more.

BL: How would you describe your service?
TS: Right now I'm mostly internet/retail based, branching out into catering. It's great for fine gifts, party favors, weddings,

BL: How did you start The Sticky Pig and what is it exactly?
TS:The Sticky Pig started in November 2009, and it's waht I call basic candied bacon. Bacon with brown sugar, pop it in the over until it's sweet & gooey. I then took it to the next level, adding different flavors and texure combinations .

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID

A fun (true) salon story.

I had a client once named Jennifer who took her mother on vacation to her family's lodge in the mountains. It was her mother's first time in an airplane at the ripe old age of 70 (something) believe it or not. Jennifer helped escort her mother back to their seat when boarding the plane and encouraged her mother to take the window seat. After careful thought and consideration the mother turned to Jennifer and said:

"Dear, I've just had my hair done and I'd rather not sit by the window."

Talk about a salon chuckle. This was truly the "highlight" of my day. Happy Monday everybody!

Wedding Hair - Salons and Bridal Season

Image
As your wedding day gets closer - be sure you are planning ahead for your salon and beauty services.

There's nothing worse than getting right up to your wedding day with no concrete plans or pre-bookings for your hair or makeup services.  Wedding Day Hair is a critical part of the day for the bride and everyone else.

Here are my top suggestions for securing beautiful wedding day hair on your special day.

Don't wait too long for your first consultation and run-through.  Delays creates last minute confusion not only in getting people scheduled but the overall wedding day vision as well.
Take plenty of photos for inspiration, and remember to take photos while you are at your hair rehearsal.
Pre-book ALL appointments needed for cut and color services leading up to your wedding dayConfirm your beauty professional's availability one week prior to your wedding as a reminder to him or her about your special dayGet creative, add feathers and flair

ONLINE SOCIAL DEALS - NOT SO GOOD!

SOCIAL DEALS ARE ALL THE CRAZE ONLINE RIGHT NOW.  BUT ARE THEY REALLY GOOD FOR YOU?

While it might be fun to try a new restaurant or have a nice boating excursion, online "deals" aren't always the best for beauty services. Be careful who you go to, and the services they are offering.

I participated in 2 online promo offerings as part of a research effort - and found that it creates inconsistent clientele - who often never return unless there's another deal.   Clients - this creates hardship for your beauty professional and can create inconsistent results for you.

MY ADVICE - PAY FULL PRICE.   BE LOYAL TO YOUR SALON PROFESSIONAL!
And remember to book your next appointment before leaving!

Fiery Red - Tilda Swinton

TILDA SWINTON - ALWAYS EN VOGUE!!

To get this fiery red look, ask your salon professional for a red kicker in your color but be sure you aren't straying too far from your own natural tones or you may get uneven results.

Reds take time, patience, and a great commitment with frequent touch-ups needed to keep color results looking their best. If you are moving into reds, ask your salon professional how much upkeep it will require, land be sure you are working with the right "at-home" products to prevent color fading. Most importantly, don't self prescribe color enhancing shampoos unless recommended by your salon professional.

TILDA WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!

Great color - Great cover.

BEAUTY TIP:
To prevent creasing lip color, place tissue over lips and powder through with transluscent powder and a powder puff AFTER color is applied. If needed, reapply gloss to surface or lightly line lips after powder. This helps set lip color and prevents running or creasing. To separate lashes, use a clean mascara brush and stroke through from top side to isolate and separate lashes. This gives a clearner/softer (less messy) look.

Smokey Eyes - with a cotton ball!

Image
Go from day-time to night-time with the stroke of cotton.

Simply use a cotton ball to apply shadows to eye-lids for a simple/smokey look. What's more, this keeps make-up hygiene safe because you dispose of the cotton when done. One stroke - voila. You're ready for a night out on the town.
